Zamalek crumble early as Pyramids punish costly goalkeeping error
Zamalek’s Egyptian Premier League clash with Pyramids turned sour after a critical error by goalkeeper Mohamed Awad led to an early setback in Tuesday night’s game.
Just 21 minutes in, Awad mishandled a routine catch, allowing the ball to bounce off his chest and land perfectly for Pyramids winger Ibrahim Adel, who calmly tapped in the opener, marking his eighth league goal of the season.
The early goal rattled Zamalek, who struggled to regain control of the match. The situation worsened just 11 minutes later when their top scorer, Nasser Mansi, was forced off with an injury, adding to the club’s misfortunes. Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri came on in his place, but the change couldn’t restore Zamalek’s momentum.
Ibrahim Adel, who also has nine assists to his name this season, continued to pose a threat throughout the game, keeping Zamalek’s defence on high alert. The White Knights now face increasing pressure to bounce back quickly as they push to stay competitive in the title race.
