Zamalek clinches final berth with convincing victory over Dreams FC in Kumasi
Dreams FC’s remarkable campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup came to an end on Sunday with a resounding 3-0 defeat at home against Zamalek in the semi-final second leg of the CAF Cup.
Following a goalless draw in the first leg in Cairo (0-0), Dreams FC approached the second leg with confidence, initiating the match with an aggressive pressing game.
However, Zamalek’s seasoned experience proved pivotal on the day.
The Egyptian outfit capitalized on their first significant opportunity, with defender Hamza Mathlouthi finding the net in the 12th minute.
This early setback rattled Dreams FC, who struggled to regain their footing. Zamalek’s Beninese striker, Samson Akinyoola, further extended the lead with a goal in the 27th minute.
Maintaining control throughout the match, Zamalek dominated proceedings, particularly in the first half. They sealed their victory in the second half with a third goal from Mostafa Shalaby.
Following the final whistle, Dreams FC players displayed visible disappointment, yet they can take pride in their achievements.
Their journey to the semi-finals marks a historic milestone, as they became the first Ghanaian club in 20 years to reach this stage of a CAF club competition.
With this victory, Zamalek advances to the final, awaiting the outcome of the clash between USM Alger and RS Berkane.
As they gear up for the final showdown, Zamalek continues to assert their dominance in African club football, aiming to add another accolade to their illustrious history.
