Zamalek celebrate sweet win over Ismaily to reclaim top spot
Zamalek players and fans had plenty to cheer about as the team returned to the summit of the Egyptian Premier League with a lively 2-0 win against Ismaily at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium on Thursday evening.
The victory came in the seventh round and kept their early momentum alive under Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira.
Abdullah Al-Saeed gave Zamalek a dream start, converting a penalty in the seventh minute after Juan Alvina was fouled. The early strike boosted the team, who pushed forward with confidence as Ismaily tried to respond but lacked any sharpness in attack.
Chances kept coming for the Whites, with Nasser Maher and Alvina both missing close-range opportunities. Alvina even struck the post late in the first half, but the lead remained slim at the break.
The second goal finally arrived in the 56th minute when Palestinian forward Adi Al-Dabbagh pounced on a defensive mistake to calmly double the lead.
Zamalek now sit on 16 points, two clear of Al-Masry. For Ismaily and coach Miloud Hamdi, the fifth defeat in seven games left them stranded on four points in nineteenth place.
