Zamalek begin CAF Champions League campaign against Port: date, venue and TV channel

Zamalek will begin their CAF Champions League campaign against Djibouti champions Port in the first leg of the first preliminary round.

The match will be played on Friday, 4 September, at Cairo International Stadium, with both fixtures in the tie scheduled to take place in Cairo after an agreement between the two clubs. The game will be broadcast on beIN Sports channels.

Zamalek’s meeting with Port marks their return to the CAF Champions League after several years away from the competition. Their place in this season’s tournament was secured by winning the Egyptian Premier League last season.

The Egyptian club will be expected to make the most of home advantage, although the arrangement means the second leg will also be held in Cairo. The two matches will decide which side advances to the next stage of Africa’s leading club competition.

The winner of the tie will meet the team that progresses from the contest between the Rwandan Army and Congolese Eagles in the second preliminary round. That stage leads to qualification for the group phase of the CAF Champions League.

The fixture therefore represents the opening step in Zamalek’s route back to the main stages of the competition. Their initial task is to overcome Port across the two matches before turning their attention to the winner of the Rwandan Army-Eagles tie.

The first meeting will take place at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, 4 September. Supporters will be able to watch the match on beIN Sports.
