Zamalek fans left the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday night with mixed emotions after their team’s first stumble in the Egyptian Premier League this season.
The White Knights slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Wadi Degla in the fifth round, a result that cost them top spot on the table.
As speculation circulated across local media about possible changes in the dugout, a responsible source within Zamalek moved quickly to set the record straight.
“The circulating news about Ferreira’s departure from Zamalek’s technical leadership is incorrect, and there is no intention to dismiss him at the present time,” a source told Kooora.
“The idea of making any changes to Zamalek’s technical staff has not been raised, and the board of directors is leaving the responsibility of football to John Edward, the sporting director.”
Despite the disappointment, Zamalek remains firmly in contention with 10 points, just one shy of leaders Al-Masry. The club hopes stability around Ferreira will steady the team as they prepare for their next test.
