Egyptian midfielder Nabil Emad Dunga is set to begin a new chapter in Saudi Arabia after Zamalek agreed his transfer to Najma in the Roshn Saudi Professional League.
The deal was completed in the final hours before the winter transfer window closed in the Kingdom, as Najma moved to reinforce their struggling midfield.
Saudi outlet Arriyadiyah reported that Najma reached an agreement with Zamalek for the 29-year-old defensive midfielder, whose contract with the Cairo giants runs until June 2027.
Egyptian reports said the transfer is valued at 1 million dollars, including 800,000 dollars fixed and 200,000 in performance-related add-ons. Zamalek are currently negotiating with Dunga over giving up some of his overdue wages to ease the club’s severe financial crisis before completing the move.
Dunga has featured in 13 games for Zamalek this season, operating primarily as a holding midfielder. Since joining from Pyramids in summer 2022, he has played 121 matches for Zamalek in all competitions, winning three trophies: the CAF Confederation Cup in 2023/24, plus the CAF Super Cup and Egypt Cup last season.
Internationally, he has made 11 appearances for Egypt since his debut with the Pharaohs in 2019. Najma, bottom of the league with just 5 points from 20 games under Portuguese coach Mario Silva, hope Dunga’s experience can spark a turnaround.
