National Bank pulled off a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2 with Zamalek in a gripping Egyptian League match at Cairo Stadium on Monday night.
The hosts were stunned just seconds into the match when Nasser Mansi netted for Zamalek, converting a low cross after a quick attacking move. Zamalek pushed to double their lead, with close efforts from Nasser Maher and Mohamed Shehata, but National Bank’s defence held firm.
The first half ended with National Bank searching for answers and Zamalek narrowly missing a second after Maher’s shot bounced off the crossbar. The second half saw National Bank take control, pressing for an equaliser and testing goalkeeper Mohamed Awwad.
Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Osama Faisal converted a penalty following a VAR review. Zamalek briefly reclaimed the lead in stoppage time with a brilliant finish from Saif El Din Jaziri.
But National Bank refused to quit, as Togolese striker Yaw Annor rose highest in the 90+3 minute to head home the equaliser, rescuing a point in a pulsating league encounter.
