Zamalek Targets African Glory After Egyptian Cup Triumph
Following their recent success in the Egyptian Cup, Zamalek now has its sights set on continental glory in the CAF Champions League. The White Knights, coached by former Olympique de Marseille striker Mido, narrowly missed out on the Egyptian Premier League title, finishing behind their fierce Cairo rivals Al Ahly.
Defender Salah Soliman reflected on the team’s resilience: “It would have been hard for us to finish this season without titles. We worked hard to win the Cup, to make up for our disappointment in the Championship.” The victory has injected renewed confidence into the squad ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals.
As the only Egyptian club still competing in Africa’s premier club competition, Zamalek is determined to assert themselves on the continental stage. Since taking charge in January after an early retirement from playing, coach Mido has led his side to this crucial phase. Their upcoming match against TP Mazembe in Alexandria, part of the group stage’s fourth round, is pivotal for their progress.
Midfielder Moëmen Zakariya is optimistic: “Our chances are good. We must win the next two matches to advance in the competition. The title is our objective.”
Currently bottom of their group with just three points, Zamalek must secure victory over the Congolese giants TP Mazembe to keep their hopes alive of lifting Africa’s most coveted club trophy.
