Djurgården forward Zakaria Sawo is being linked with a return to Cyprus, with AEL Limassol credited with interest in the 25-year-old.
The Gambia- and Sweden-qualified centre-forward, currently valued at around €400,000, is the subject of transfer speculation suggesting AEL are exploring a move from Allsvenskan side Djurgården. Data on the mooted switch lists the probability of the transfer as uncertain (“?”), underlining that talks, if any, remain at an early and unconfirmed stage.
Sawo joined Djurgården from Aris Limassol and could now be set for a second spell on the island should the rumour develop, although there is no indication yet of an agreed fee or formal negotiations. With no contract expiry listed in the available data, observers have also noted the possibility that a future free-agent scenario cannot be ruled out if his situation in Stockholm changes.
Born in Oxie, Malmö, on 11 January 2000, the 1.85m right-footed attacker has built a career across several European leagues. After progressing through youth sides at BK Olympic and Landskrona BoIS U19 in Sweden, he moved into senior football with FC Rosengård and Oskarshamns AIK before heading to Norway’s IK Start. A switch to Aris Limassol in 2023 preceded his more recent move back to Scandinavia with Djurgården.
His market value has fluctuated in recent seasons, climbing steadily during his time at Aris before dipping slightly to its current €400k mark following his move to Djurgården. That price point may appeal to AEL, who know the Cypriot league is a familiar environment for the striker, even if there are no firm signs yet that a deal is close.
Should a move materialise, a return to Cyprus could offer Sawo the chance to reassert his trajectory, enhance his reputation outside Scandinavia and demonstrate that his best years as a centre-forward are still ahead of him.
