Zakaria Labyad vows to return stronger after Corinthians injury ends his season

Zakaria Labyad will miss the rest of the season with a serious injury and faces a lengthy rehabilitation, Corinthians have confirmed.

The 33-year-old forward addressed supporters in an emotional message, acknowledging the difficulty of the past few days while insisting he remained determined to continue his career.

“These last few days have been very difficult for me. My season is over, but my journey continues,” said Labyad, who has previously played for PSV, Ajax and FC Utrecht, among others.

The Morocco international added that he was committed to making a strong recovery and returning in better condition.

“I promise you that I will work hard to come back stronger and better. Thank you for all your messages, your support and your love since my arrival,” he said.

“I want to thank all my team-mates, the medical and technical staff, everyone at Corinthians and, above all, our incredible supporters. We will not give up! I love you all. See you soon.”

Labyad’s message prompted a supportive response from his Corinthians team-mate Memphis Depay, who said the midfielder had shown his character and ability since joining the club.

“Since your arrival, you have proved that you are a worthy, determined and very talented person. I have known you for a long time and I know that you will come back stronger. I love you,” Depay wrote.

Hakim Ziyech, another Morocco international, also reacted to Labyad’s post by leaving three heart emojis.

The injury brings Labyad’s season to an early end and means he must now begin a prolonged rehabilitation programme. No further details about the nature of the injury were provided in the announcement.

Labyad’s career has included spells with PSV, Ajax and FC Utrecht before his move to Corinthians. His message made clear that, despite the setback, he intends to continue working towards a return.

The attacker thanked every part of the Brazilian club, from his fellow players and coaching staff to the medical team and supporters, underlining the backing he has received since arriving at Corinthians.

His determination was also reflected in the replies from Depay and Ziyech, who offered public encouragement after the announcement. For now, Labyad’s focus will be on the long recovery ahead, with his season already over but his playing career continuing.
