French rivals Marseille and Lyon are reportedly preparing for another transfer battle, with both clubs closely monitoring Moroccan defender Zakaria El Ouahdi ahead of the summer window.

The 24-year-old right-back, who currently plays for Belgian side Genk, has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders following an impressive campaign in Belgium.

His performances have drawn strong interest from several clubs, but Marseille and Lyon are believed to be among the most serious contenders for his signature.

According to reports from Voetbal International, both Ligue 1 sides have been tracking the Moroccan international closely as they look to strengthen their squads for next season.

El Ouahdi’s combination of defensive reliability and attacking output has made him a standout performer during the current campaign.

The defender has enjoyed a remarkable season with Genk, contributing 12 goals and five assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Those numbers have further enhanced his reputation as a modern full-back capable of influencing matches at both ends of the pitch.

His consistency and versatility have also helped him establish himself as one of Genk’s key players, attracting growing attention from clubs outside Belgium.

Marseille and Lyon, who have regularly targeted similar profiles in recent transfer windows, now appear set to compete directly once again.

Despite the strong interest, securing El Ouahdi’s services is unlikely to be straightforward. The Moroccan defender remains under contract with Genk until 2028, placing the Belgian club in a strong negotiating position.

According to Africafoot, Genk have placed a valuation of around €15 million on the player. The asking price reflects both his long-term contract situation and his rising status after an outstanding season.

For Marseille and Lyon, the potential transfer represents more than simply adding depth to their squads. El Ouahdi is viewed as a player capable of making an immediate impact due to his attacking quality, defensive discipline and ability to adapt to different tactical systems.

As the summer transfer window approaches, attention will now focus on which club decides to make the first concrete move.

With two of France’s biggest clubs interested, the race for the Moroccan international is already shaping up to become one of the notable transfer stories of the off-season.
