Last Wednesday, Zakaria Bakkali showcased his talent in the match between PSV Eindhoven and Belgian club Zulte Waregem, contributing to PSV’s 3-0 victory with a goal. The Belgian player of Moroccan origin has been in impressive form for the Dutch club this season and is expected to be called up for Belgium’s friendly against France on August 14.
However, despite his eligibility for both Morocco and Belgium, the 17-year-old seems torn between the two options. Bakkali admits that his heart is undecided, describing it as a 50-50 situation. Nevertheless, he leans towards representing Belgium, citing better opportunities to participate in major tournaments like the World Cup and the Euro.
Bakkali expressed his willingness to join the Red Devils if called up, but he acknowledges that he doesn’t have to make a definitive choice yet, as it is a friendly match. Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has stated that he won’t pressure the young talent and emphasized that the decision ultimately lies with Bakkali. Despite this, reports suggest that Bakkali is likely to be included in the list of players called up for the match against France.
