Zakari Bakkali, the young Belgian international of Moroccan descent, found himself back on the PSV bench last weekend after being excluded from the first team for several weeks. Despite making a significant impact at the beginning of the season, the talented striker seems to have fallen short of the high expectations placed upon him. With limited playing time under Philip Cocu’s leadership, Bakkali remains uncertain about his future. While acknowledging the comfortable living provided by PSV Eindhoven, the 18-year-old forward is primarily concerned about his sporting development.
“I’m content with my compensation and enjoy being at PSV Eindhoven, but there’s an issue: my progress in the sport,” explained Bakkali. “I’m hesitant because I’m not getting enough playing time anymore. At the moment, it’s impossible for me to advance, and that’s what I aspire to. If PSV can’t assure me that things will improve next season, why would I commit to a new contract?” he questioned. “I’m awaiting communication from PSV. While it’s not out of the question for me to stay, I must admit, I’m undecided.”
