Senegalese striker Youssouph Badji is on the verge of a transfer from Sporting Charleroi to a French Ligue 2 club. The 22-year-old, who has had an inconsistent spell in Belgium since joining the Zebras in the summer of 2023, is notably absent from Charleroi’s squad for their Pro League clash against Mechelen on Saturday. His departure now appears imminent.

Belgian media outlets, including La Dernière Heure (La DH), report that Badji is close to finalizing a move to Amiens SC, a Ligue 2 team managed by fellow Senegalese coach Oumar Daf.

Although there were also inquiries from a Dutch club, the deal with the French side seems to be the likeliest outcome as the transfer window edges toward its close.

Badji’s stint with Charleroi has been marked by ups and downs.

After arriving with high hopes following his time at Club Bruges, where he had shown promise as a young forward, Badji struggled to establish consistent form with Sporting.

In his 66 appearances for the club, he managed to score just six goals, a statistic that falls short of expectations for a striker of his potential.

This transfer could represent a fresh start for the Senegalese forward, who is looking to reignite his career and find stability.

At Amiens SC, he will have the opportunity to work under the guidance of Oumar Daf, who is familiar with Senegalese talent and may be able to help him realize the potential he showed earlier in his career.

The exact terms of the transfer have yet to be disclosed, with speculation surrounding whether the deal will be a permanent transfer or a loan agreement.

Charleroi, who themselves are in need of attacking reinforcements, might be reluctant to let Badji go permanently without securing a suitable replacement before the window shuts.

Badji’s move to Ligue 2 could benefit all parties involved.

For Amiens, who are striving for promotion to Ligue 1, the addition of a powerful striker with experience in European competitions may bolster their chances in a highly competitive division.

For Badji, a shift to a new environment and the opportunity to work under a Senegalese coach could reignite the hunger that saw him rise through the ranks of Club Bruges and earn international attention.

Badji’s career trajectory has been one of high expectations met with challenges in adapting to the physical and tactical demands of European football.

His potential remains evident, but consistency has been elusive.

If the move to Amiens materializes, Badji will need to seize the opportunity to prove his worth and solidify his standing as a striker capable of making an impact at a higher level.

As the transfer window draws to a close, the coming hours will determine whether Youssouph Badji embarks on a new chapter in France’s second division.

The young striker’s future now lies in the hands of Amiens SC, as they prepare to welcome the Senegalese forward into their ranks, hoping he can provide the attacking impetus needed for a strong campaign in Ligue 2.
