Malian left-back Youssouf Koné is on the verge of returning to European football after terminating his contract with Jeunesse Sportive Kabylie.

The 29-year-old, who parted ways with the Algerian club on March 11, is now being tracked by two clubs as he assesses his next move.

According to sources close to the player, Nacional de Madeira, currently positioned 11th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, has initiated discussions with Koné’s representatives.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage, though no agreement has been finalized.

The club sees the experienced defender as a potential asset as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of the season’s conclusion.

Meanwhile, French club Troyes, where Koné previously played, is also monitoring his situation.

The Ligue 2 side has reportedly made initial contact with his camp regarding a possible return.

Should the move materialize, Koné could provide competition for Houboulang Mendes, whose loan deal is set to expire in June.

Reflecting on the interest surrounding his future, Koné stated: “I was approached by major European clubs,” underscoring his desire to secure a stable role at a competitive level.

The defender, who has earned 17 caps for the Mali national team, brings significant experience from his time with clubs such as Lille, Lyon, Reims, Elche, Troyes, and Molenbeek.

Currently valued at €800,000 by Transfermarkt, Koné remains an attractive option for clubs seeking defensive reinforcements.

With Nacional de Madeira and Troyes both in contention, a return to European football seems imminent for the Bamako-born defender.
