Youssef En-Nesyri has etched his name in Moroccan football history, becoming the country’s all-time leading scorer in the UEFA Europa League.
The Fenerbahçe striker netted his 11th goal in the competition during his side’s commanding 3-0 victory over Anderlecht on Thursday, further cementing his status as one of the most prolific Moroccan forwards.
The 27-year-old, who moved to Fenerbahçe last summer in a Süper Lig-record €19.5 million transfer, has been in scintillating form.
In 22 appearances across all competitions, En-Nesyri has scored 18 goals and provided four assists, leading the club’s goal-scoring charts.
His remarkable consistency has also made him one of the top scorers in the Turkish Cup, where he has three goals, and in the Europa League this season, where he trails only fellow Moroccan Ayoub El Kaabi, who has seven.
En-Nesyri’s Legacy Continues to Grow
Before his move to Turkey, En-Nesyri had already set records in Spain with Sevilla FC.
He became the highest-scoring Moroccan in La Liga history, surpassing Larbi Ben Barek’s long-standing tally of 58 goals by netting 69 times and adding 10 assists.
In the UEFA Champions League, he also made history, equalling Hakim Ziyech’s record as Morocco’s top scorer in the competition with 10 goals.
His achievements extend to the international stage, where he has earned 67 caps for the Atlas Lions, scoring 17 goals.
His performances at the FIFA World Cup have been particularly noteworthy—his iconic header against Portugal in the 2022 quarter-finals made him Morocco’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with three goals.
Chasing AFCON History
As Morocco prepares to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, En-Nesyri stands on the brink of yet another milestone.
With five AFCON goals to his name, he is just one strike away from equalling the national record held by Ahmed Faras (six goals).
Should he be selected for the tournament, the Fenerbahçe forward will have the chance to add yet another record to his growing list of achievements.
