Youssef Belamri has been omitted from Al Ahly’s matchday squad for Wednesday’s encounter against Al Ahly Bank, with the decision attributed to concerns over his current physical condition.
The Moroccan has not featured in competitive action for some time, prompting the technical team to opt for a gradual approach to his reintegration rather than rushing him into match action.
Head coach Jess Thorup held a one-on-one meeting with Belamri to outline the technical rationale behind the decision and to stress the importance of attaining full physical and tactical sharpness.
During the discussion, Thorup reaffirmed his strong belief in the player’s quality and potential, noting that these attributes informed the club’s decision to sign him and include him on both the domestic and CAF registration lists.
Al Ahly’s coaching staff have indicated that Belamri remains firmly in their plans and is expected to be considered for selection once he completes his rehabilitation programme ahead of upcoming fixtures.
