Morocco defender Youssef Belammari hospitalised after injury in Al Ahly friendly

Al Ahly’s preparations for the new season have been disrupted after Moroccan defender Youssef Belammari suffered a knee injury during Wednesday’s friendly against Spanish side Badalona.

Belammari was forced to leave the pitch and was taken to hospital for medical examinations and X-rays to determine the extent of the injury.

The Egyptian giants confirmed the development through their official channels, with further tests expected to establish the nature of the injury and how long the Morocco international could be unavailable.

Medical tests to determine severity

Belammari sustained the injury during the friendly at the Busque de Tosca Municipal Stadium in Spain, where Al Ahly are continuing their preparations for the upcoming campaign.

The club is awaiting the results of the examinations before determining the defender’s treatment plan and expected recovery period.

The findings will indicate whether Belammari requires an extended spell of rehabilitation or can return to training in the near future.

Morocco defender joined Al Ahly from Raja

Belammari joined Al Ahly from Moroccan club Raja Casablanca in January, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Egyptian champions.

His move to Cairo was part of Al Ahly’s efforts to strengthen their squad, and the club will now hope the injury does not keep the defender out for a significant period.

The injury comes as Al Ahly work to rebuild after a disappointing previous season.
