Youri Tielemans heads to Manchester United for medical after clause triggered
Youri Tielemans is travelling to Manchester to complete his medical ahead of a transfer to Manchester United, after the club triggered his £35 million release clause at Aston Villa earlier in the day.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Belgian midfielder is expected to undergo tests within the next 24 hours before signing a long-term contract at Old Trafford. The move is described as a dream step for Tielemans, who has long been linked with a switch to one of England’s biggest clubs.
Tielemans’ journey to this point has been built on a remarkably early start. He joined Anderlecht’s academy at five, debuted for the first team at 16, and became the youngest player in Belgian Pro League history, winning two league titles and three Super Cups while making 185 appearances and scoring 35 goals before a €25 million move to Monaco.
Game time in France was inconsistent, prompting a loan to Club Brugge and then a pivotal spell at Leicester City, where he established himself as a Premier League playmaker. In July 2023 he joined Aston Villa on a free transfer, and now United see him as a ready-made, experienced addition to their midfield.
