Youri Tielemans: Belgium midfielder joins Manchester United from Aston Villa in €41m deal

Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United from Aston Villa in a €41m permanent transfer. The 29-year-old central midfielder has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford running until 30 June 2031.

Tielemans arrives after three seasons at Villa Park, where he most recently helped the club to Europa League glory in the 2025-26 campaign. He initially moved to Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023 and has now returned to the top end of the Premier League with United.

The right-footed midfielder brings extensive top-flight experience, having made 244 Premier League appearances with 26 goals and 39 assists across his spells with Leicester and Aston Villa. In domestic cups, he has contributed important goals, including four in 20 FA Cup outings and three in 12 EFL Cup games.

Tielemans first made his name with Anderlecht, winning two Belgian league titles and three Super Cups before earning a move to Monaco in 2017. He later became a key figure at Leicester, lifting the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021, before switching to Villa Park.

On the European stage, he has featured regularly in both the Champions League and Europa League, making a combined 75 appearances in UEFA’s two main club competitions. For Belgium, he was part of the squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup and featured again at the 2026 tournament, scoring twice in five matches.

Tielemans, who stands at 1.76m, is valued at around €30m on the market and now commits the peak years of his career to Manchester United with his long-term deal.
