It had been expected for weeks, and it is now official: Younousse Sankharé and Girondins de Bordeaux have gone their separate ways. The two parties have reached an amicable agreement, bringing an end to a tense and prolonged standoff that had sidelined the Senegalese midfielder for months.

Sankharé’s situation at Bordeaux had deteriorated significantly since last summer. Frozen out of the squad by head coach Paulo Sousa, the 34-year-old midfielder was no longer part of the club’s plans and failed to regain his place despite the passing months. Once considered an important figure in the dressing room, he found himself training away from the group and excluded from matchday squads, with his future at the club growing increasingly uncertain.

The Portuguese manager reportedly had little intention of reintegrating the former PSG academy product, and tensions between the player and the club hierarchy only worsened. Bordeaux officials criticized Sankharé’s behavior, which they deemed incompatible with the team’s standards and internal rules. The relationship reached such a low point that disciplinary measures were taken, and dismissal proceedings were even initiated against him earlier in the season.

However, rather than continuing the conflict, both sides ultimately chose a negotiated settlement. According to information reported by 20 Minutes, an agreement was finalized on Tuesday after several months of discussions. The compromise allows Sankharé to leave the club immediately and puts an end to the legal and contractual dispute that had overshadowed the first half of his season.

Bordeaux confirmed the development in a brief statement released on Wednesday. “An agreement has been signed between Girondins de Bordeaux Football Club and Mr. Younousse Sankharé,” the club announced, before wishing the player “a speedy return to a new club and continued success in his professional football career.” The concise message signaled a clear desire to close the chapter quietly and move forward.

Sankharé had been suspended since September 5, effectively cutting short his involvement with the first team. His departure ends a two-and-a-half-month conflict that had become increasingly uncomfortable for all parties. Under contract until June 2021, he now becomes a free agent and is free to sign with the club of his choice without any transfer fee.

Despite the bitter ending, Sankharé leaves Bordeaux with a respectable record. Since arriving from Lille in 2017 for €3 million, the Senegal international featured in 84 matches for the Girondins, scoring 19 goals from midfield. His physical presence, leadership, and ability to contribute offensively made him a valuable asset during his better spells at the club.

Now released from his contract, Sankharé can focus on finding a new challenge to revive his career. For Bordeaux, the agreement brings closure to a complicated situation and allows the club to concentrate fully on sporting matters. What was once a promising partnership has ended in disappointment, but both sides will hope that a clean break offers a fresh start moving forward.
