Younès Kaabouni Sets Sights on Breakthrough Season with Bordeaux
After officially signing professional terms with Girondins de Bordeaux, Younès Kaabouni is ready to take the next step in his young career. The 19-year-old French international, who has come through the club’s academy, opened up to the club’s official website about the challenges of last season and his determination to establish himself as a key player.
Kaabouni candidly described the 2013–2014 season as “complicated,” admitting that while game time was limited, the experience of being around the professional squad was invaluable.
“I didn’t get much playing time, but I was able to experience Ligue 1,” he said. “I learned about my job as a professional player. Former coach Francis Gillot, whom I thank again, allowed me to play my first starting match in Ligue 1 against Monaco. I played a good match and provided my first assist in Ligue 1 at the same time.”
Kaabouni highlighted the stark contrast between the CFA (France’s reserve league system) and top-flight football.
“The difference between the CFA and Ligue 1? It’s mainly the pace. In the CFA, we were used to a slower pace. In Ligue 1, it’s much tougher. It goes very quickly, and every mistake can have consequences.”
Now under new management and looking ahead with fresh motivation, Kaabouni has made his goals clear.
“This season, I want to play a lot of matches and earn a starting spot.”
With his talent, technical ability, and the hunger to prove himself, Younès Kaabouni is certainly a player to watch in Bordeaux’s midfield this season.
