Yira Sor: Nigeria winger linked with surprise Amed SK switch from Genk

Nigeria winger Yira Sor of Genk is being linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig side Amed SK as the Belgian club weigh up interest in the 26-year-old left-sided attacker.

Sor, who has a contract with Genk until 30 June 2027, is understood to be attracting attention after establishing himself in Belgium’s top flight, where he has made 72 Jupiler Pro League appearances and scored 13 goals. Any deal is likely to require a significant fee for Amed SK, with the player currently valued at around €2.5m.

Genk invested heavily to bring Sor in from Slavia Prague in January 2023, paying a reported €6.5m at the time after his breakthrough in European competition. His record in continental tournaments remains a key part of his appeal, with 6 goals in 14 Conference League outings and further experience in both Europa League proper and qualifying rounds.

Born in Lagos and primarily deployed as a left winger who operates off his right foot, Sor has also featured in domestic cup competitions in Belgium and previously lifted the Czech Cup with Slavia in the 2022–23 season.

Genk face a decision on whether to cash in on Sor now, while he still has a year left after the coming season on his current deal, or look to extend his stay. For the moment, he remains under contract at the Cegeka Arena as Amed SK explore the possibility of adding him to their Super Lig squad.
