During his time at Beveren in Belgium, Yaya Touré had a trial with Arsenal. Unfortunately, due to a passport issue, the Ivorian midfielder did not sign for the Gunners. Instead, he joined Metalurg Donetsk in Ukraine.
Arsène Wenger, the manager of Arsenal at the time, expressed regret over this missed opportunity. He wished that Touré could have played for Arsenal, describing it as one of his greatest regrets.
“This will remain as one of my greatest regrets. We needed to wait for him to get his passport in Belgium, but he chose Donetsk because he could play there without a passport,” Wenger said in an interview with Sky Sports.
