Yaya Touré has officially retired from professional football, the announcement confirmed on Thursday by his agent, Dimitry Seluk. The former Ivory Coast international, who had been without a club since leaving Olympiacos Piraeus, now intends to focus on a coaching career.
Touré is already prepared for this next step, having obtained his coaching license and becoming eligible to work as an assistant coach starting in June. According to Seluk, there are already opportunities on the table, including options in Russia and Ukraine. Recently, Yaya conducted a masterclass at Dynamo Kyiv, which was met with great enthusiasm.
Following in the footsteps of his brother Kolo Touré, who serves as assistant coach to Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, Yaya is expected to transition quickly into a coaching role within European football. His extensive playing experience at top clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester City, positions him well for a successful second career on the sidelines.
