Yaya Touré enjoys perfect start as Slovan Bratislava boss with back-to-back victories

Ivory Coast legend Yaya Touré has made an outstanding start to his managerial career, guiding Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava to consecutive victories since taking charge of the club earlier this month.

The former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder has wasted little time stamping his authority on the team, leading Slovan to impressive wins in both European and domestic competition to begin the new campaign on a high.

Touré, who was appointed head coach just a few weeks ago, is experiencing his first opportunity to manage a senior club side as the main coach after serving in various assistant and youth coaching roles since ending his illustrious playing career.

The 42-year-old enjoyed a winning debut on July 21 when Slovan Bratislava defeated Georgian champions Iberia 1999 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie.

The victory gave Touré the perfect introduction to life in the dugout and strengthened the Slovak giants’ hopes of progressing further in Europe’s premier club competition.

His side carried that momentum into the domestic league, producing another commanding display on July 26 as they cruised to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Banská Bystrica on the opening weekend of the Slovak top-flight season.

Slovan completely outclassed their opponents, showcasing attacking quality and defensive solidity to hand Touré a second successive win in as many matches.

The emphatic triumph underlined the positive impact the Ivorian has already made, with his players quickly adapting to his tactical approach and philosophy.
