Yassir Zabiri strikes late winner as Racing Santander beat Malaga

Yassir Zabiri scored the winning goal for Racing Santander against Malaga on Saturday, 7 November, taking his league tally to nine and moving him up to fourth in the Spanish championship’s scoring charts.

The Morocco international produced the decisive moment during the 12th round of the season as Racing Santander came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory and three important points.

Zabiri reacted quickest after the Malaga goalkeeper had saved an initial effort. The forward remained alert inside the penalty area, collected the rebound and finished with his left foot to send the ball into the net.

The goal completed a particularly positive run for the Racing Santander striker, who now heads into the Morocco squad’s training camp with confidence high.

It also underlined the quality of his start to the campaign. Zabiri has scored nine times in the league and is now fourth in the competition’s leading-scorer standings. None of those goals has come from the penalty spot.

The 20-year-old’s performances have increased attention around him during the opening weeks of the season. Transfermarkt values the Morocco international at 20 million euros, while his latest contribution ensured Racing Santander ended the matchday with a significant victory.

Zabiri will now join the Lions de l’Atlas after scoring in his final match before the international break.
