Morocco forward Yassir Zabiri set for Racing Santander loan move

Morocco forward Yassir Zabiri is on the verge of joining Spanish side Racing Santander on loan, just six months after completing a permanent move to French club Rennes.

According to Foot Mercato, the 20-year-old has agreed to the temporary switch, with only the final details of the deal still to be completed before the transfer is officially confirmed.

The move comes after Zabiri found first-team opportunities difficult to come by in France, particularly following Rennes’ mid-season managerial change that saw Habib Beye replaced by Franck Haise.

Search for regular football

A loan move to Spain is expected to provide the young striker with the regular playing time he has been seeking as he continues his development.

Zabiri joined Rennes in January in a reported €10 million transfer after an impressive spell with Portuguese side Famalicao, where he scored seven goals.

However, he struggled to establish himself in Ligue 1, making six appearances and playing just 42 minutes without finding the back of the net.

Looking to rediscover goalscoring touch

Despite his difficult start in France, Zabiri remains one of Morocco’s brightest young attacking talents following his outstanding performances at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The striker finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals, including both strikes in Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Argentina in the final.

A move to Racing Santander would offer Zabiri the opportunity to regain his scoring form, secure consistent first-team football and strengthen his case for a future role at Rennes after the loan spell concludes.
