Al-Hilal suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat to Al Khaleej on Saturday during Matchday 11 of the Saudi Pro League, marking the team’s first loss in 46 league games. The result also ended a remarkable undefeated streak for goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who had previously gone unbeaten in every official match since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2023.
The Riyadh-based club, crowned Saudi champions last season, had been in impressive form, winning 31 matches and drawing 3 in the league.
undefeated streak stretched to 34 consecutive victories across all competitions before a 4-2 loss to Al-Ain in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League in April.
Despite this, Bounou had remained untouched by defeat, having missed the Al-Ain match.
Bounou’s personal unbeaten run, which had spanned 56 matches, came to a halt on Saturday with this loss.
In that time, he had recorded 53 wins, 3 draws, and 1 defeat, keeping 24 clean sheets and conceding just 41 goals.
Though the defeat marks a blemish on his record, the 33-year-old goalkeeper has shown remarkable consistency and will look to bounce back quickly.
Al-Hilal will face Al-Sadd on Tuesday in the Asian Champions League, where Bounou will aim to return to winning ways alongside his compatriot and teammate Romain Saïss.
