Yassine Benhattab joins Montpellier from Nantes for 1m euro
Nantes attacking midfielder Yassine Benhattab is on the verge of joining Montpellier, with the two clubs reportedly agreeing on a transfer fee around 1 million euros.
The 23-year-old, who has fallen out of Nantes’ first-team plans, is set for a fresh start in the south of France.
Benhattab made ten Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes last season before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Reims in Ligue 2. His exclusion from the professional squad in recent months signaled that a departure was imminent, and Montpellier now offers him a chance to revive his top-flight career.
Before joining Nantes, Benhattab impressed at Aubagne, where he was named the best player of the 2024–25 National season. That standout form earned him his move to Ligue 1, though consistent opportunities proved limited at Nantes.
For Montpellier, securing a young, technically gifted midfielder at a modest fee fits their recruitment strategy of blending experience with emerging talent. Benhattab’s creativity and work rate could add depth to their attacking options as they aim to consolidate their Ligue 1 status this season.
