Yarouba Cissako Joins Belgian Side Zulte Waregem from AS Monaco
AS Monaco’s promising young right-back Yarouba Cissako has made a move to Belgium, signing a one-year contract with Jupiler Pro League club Zulte Waregem.
The 19-year-old defender, who developed through Monaco’s youth academy since 2010, officially joined the Belgian side on Wednesday. Cissako expressed optimism about the next stage in his career and his ambitions at his new club.
“I want to take the next step in my career,” Cissako said in a statement posted on Zulte Waregem’s official website. “Zulte Waregem has a strong reputation both in Belgium and in European competitions. I obviously aspire to play at a higher level, at clubs like Anderlecht, Standard Liège, or Club Brugge. I’m eager to seize my opportunity as soon as possible.”
Cissako’s journey began at Monaco’s renowned training centre, where he has spent the last four years honing his skills. Last season, he featured 19 times for the club’s reserve team, contributing three goals—including one in the prestigious Coupe Gambardella, a youth cup competition in France.
His performances at club level have been complemented by his extensive international experience with French youth teams. Cissako has represented France at several age groups, earning seven caps for the Under-16s, eleven for the Under-17s, and five for the Under-19 squad.
In June 2013, the right-back committed his future to Monaco by signing his first professional contract, a three-year deal reflecting the club’s confidence in his potential.
Despite his promising development, Cissako has opted to leave Monaco to gain first-team experience and progress his career in a competitive European league. His transfer to Zulte Waregem provides a valuable platform to showcase his talents at senior level.
Zulte Waregem, known for their strong performances in Belgian football and regular participation in European tournaments, welcomed the young defender with enthusiasm.
“Welkom Yarouba Cissako!” the club tweeted following the signing.
The move marks an important chapter for Cissako as he embarks on the next phase of his professional journey, with aspirations to climb the ranks of Belgian football and eventually join one of the country’s top clubs.
As Cissako prepares to take on new challenges, football fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see how this young talent develops in the competitive environment of the Jupiler Pro League.
