Zamalek opened a new chapter under Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira with a narrow but encouraging 1-0 victory over Orange in a preseason friendly at the Military College Stadium on Friday evening.
Hossam Abdel-Majid grabbed the winner in the 86th minute, firing home a low drive from outside the box to seal a debut win for Ferreira, who watched from the sidelines as his team worked through two different lineups.
Zamalek started the game on the front foot, with Saif El-Jaziri and Ahmed El-Jafali pressing early. Abdullah El-Saeed rattled the crossbar in the 17th minute, while Mahab Yasser narrowly missed the target later in the half. Orange sat deep and countered but couldn’t capitalize.
The first half ended goalless despite Zamalek’s dominance. In the second half, chances continued to fall Zamalek’s way. Nasser Maher and Mansi came close, but it was Abdel-Majid’s late strike that made the difference.
The win offers Ferreira a solid foundation as he shapes the squad ahead of the new season, with signs of fluid play and sharp pressing already visible in both halves.
