Struggling to find playing time at Benfica, Yannick Djalo is seeking a fresh start in the United States. The Portuguese striker, of Guinea-Bissau origin, has departed Benfica Lisbon to join MLS champions San Jose Earthquakes on loan.
Once regarded as one of the brightest talents in Portuguese football, Djalo has encountered difficulties in recent years. Following a disappointing spell at Toulouse, the former Sporting player aims to rejuvenate his career in San Jose for the remainder of the season. Despite being on the books of Benfica, Djalo has not featured for the club this season, prompting the loan move.
Although Djalo’s international career has been limited to a solitary call-up for the Portuguese national team, there has been speculation about his potential eligibility to represent Guinea-Bissau.
