Ligue 1 sensation: Yann Gboho expresses strong desire to play for Ivory Coast
Toulouse midfielder Yann Gboho has revealed his desire to represent Ivory Coast at international level as he continues to impress in France’s Ligue 1.
The 24-year-old, who previously represented France at youth level, says playing for the Elephants would be a major ambition as he enjoys one of the most productive seasons of his career.
Born in Man, Ivory Coast, Gboho moved away at a young age but has maintained strong ties to his country of origin.
His recent performances with Toulouse have brought renewed attention to his potential international future.
Strong form in Ligue 1
Gboho has been a key player for Toulouse during the current Ligue 1 campaign.
In 24 league matches this season, the midfielder has scored six goals and provided two assists.
His influence extends beyond goals and creativity.
The player has also emerged as the most successful dribbler in Ligue 1 this season, completing 60 dribbles so far.
That form has helped elevate his profile within the French top flight and has drawn attention from observers following the progress of Ivorian players abroad.
After joining Toulouse in January 2024, the midfielder appears to have reached a new level in his development.
Capable of playing both centrally and on the wing, his versatility has made him an important option in the team’s attacking setup.
Dream of playing for Ivory Coast
Despite his international appearances for France’s youth teams at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels, Gboho says representing Ivory Coast remains a personal goal.
“Wearing the Elephants’ jersey is clearly a very important goal for me. Representing Ivory Coast would be a huge source of pride for me.”
The midfielder explained that his connection to the country has remained strong throughout his life.
“Even though I left at a very young age, Ivory Coast has always been a part of me. It’s my history, my family, my roots. I grew up with Ivorian values at home: respect, the joy of life.”
Gboho also said he regularly follows the national team’s performances.
“I regularly watch the Elephants’ matches. I watch them whenever I can, with my family. Ivory Coast has a national team with great talent.”
Possible option for the national team
Developed in the youth system at Rennes before progressing through France’s junior national sides, Gboho’s strong club performances could now place him on the radar of Ivory Coast’s national team.
His current form may offer another attacking option for Elephants coach Emerse Faé as the national side continues to monitor players eligible to represent the country.
