Liverpool target Ivorian teen sensation Yan Diomandé

Yan Diomandé has been named in Ivory Coast’s squad for the final two qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, as coach Emerse Faé looks to inject fresh attacking options into his side.

The 18-year-old forward, under contract with RB Leipzig until 2030 and valued at €1.5m by Transfermarkt, is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in African football.

Born and raised in Aboisso, Diomandé began his footballing journey at AFI Sud-Comoé, joining the academy at the age of 10.

His potential quickly became apparent, earning him a move to Europe as a teenager.

After a spell at CD Leganés in Spain, where his performances drew significant attention, he sealed a long-term deal with ambitious Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in 2025.

His dazzling displays at the UFOA B U17 tournament in 2022 were instrumental in persuading European scouts of his potential.

At Leganés, Diomandé established himself as a dynamic attacking force.

Known for his pace, technique and goal threat, he posted impressive figures for a teenager: a 68% dribbling success rate and 84% of his touches in the opposition penalty area. These statistics underlined his ability to penetrate defences and create scoring opportunities.

Since arriving at Leipzig, Diomandé has continued to impress.

According to FotMob data, he averages 3.5 successful dribbles per match in the Bundesliga, placing him among the competition’s best in that category.

His ability to carry the ball forward and stretch defences has made him a valuable asset in Germany and a source of optimism for the Ivorian national team.

Diomandé’s club choice also speaks to his long-term vision.

According to reports, he initially rejected an approach from Sunderland, who later turned to Simon Adingra, and was pursued by several other English and German clubs.

Instead, he opted for Leipzig’s project, which he saw as an ideal environment to develop and break through at the highest level.

His call-up for Ivory Coast’s matches against Seychelles on 10 October and Kenya on 13 October marks an important step in his career.

With his speed, creativity and finishing ability, the young forward is expected to add a new dimension to Faé’s attack as the Elephants look to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup.
