Yan Diomande registered his first assist for Real Madrid as the Ivorian international helped create Kylian Mbappe’s goal against Elche on Tuesday.
The 6th day of the Liga season provided Diomande with an important opportunity to make an impact, and he took it by delivering an accurate pass for Mbappe to finish the hosts’ second goal.
It was the winger’s second consecutive start after he was named in the starting XI for the previous league fixture against Rayo Vallecano. This time, however, Diomande offered a greater threat and played a more prominent role in the final third.
His understanding with Mbappe was the clearest sign of his influence. Diomande found the France forward in space and supplied the assist that gave him his first decisive contribution since moving to the Spanish capital.
The moment represents a significant step in the young player’s adaptation to life at Real Madrid. His opening appearances had been relatively quiet, but the performance against Elche gives him a tangible reward for his work and a platform from which to continue developing.
Diomande is under contract with Real Madrid until 30 June 2033 and has an estimated market value of 90 million euros. His move has also made him the most expensive Ivorian player of all time and the biggest sale in the history of Leipzig.
The assist against Elche therefore offered more than a single contribution to a league match. It marked the first clear indication this season that Diomande is beginning to establish himself as an influential option in Real Madrid’s attack.
