Yan Diomande says goodbye to Leipzig after completing dream move to Real Madrid
Ivorian winger Yann Diomande has bid an emotional farewell to RB Leipzig following the completion of his transfer to Real Madrid, describing the move to the Spanish giants as “a childhood dream come true”.
Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that the Ivory Coast international had signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2033.
In a video message shared on Leipzig’s official X account, the 21-year-old thanked the German club for believing in him and helping him establish himself at the highest level of European football.
“I am very grateful to RB Leipzig. The club and its management believed in me a year ago, even though I had only played a few games as a professional player. They gave me their trust and allowed me to prove my abilities at the highest level.”
From Leipzig breakthrough to World Cup stage
Diomande reflected on the progress he made during his time in Germany, highlighting how his development at Leipzig paved the way for his rise with the Ivory Coast national team.
He credited the club with helping him earn recognition on both the domestic and international stage.
“I managed to establish myself in one of the best leagues in Europe, secure a place in the Ivory Coast national team, and represent my country on the biggest football stage in the world, the World Cup. None of this would have been possible without Leipzig, and therefore I will always be grateful to them.”
The winger also reserved special praise for the Leipzig hierarchy, thanking them for facilitating his move to Madrid despite his existing contract with the Bundesliga side.
“Moving to Real Madrid is a childhood dream come true. I am most grateful to the Leipzig management, because they made this transfer possible, even though my contract with the club was still valid.”
Heartfelt message to supporters
Diomande paid tribute to Leipzig supporters, thanking them for their backing throughout his spell at the club.
“To the fans, thank you for your incredible support from the very first moment. Your passion, your trust in me, and your constant encouragement mean more to me than words can describe. I will always be grateful for the love you have given me.”
The Ivorian acknowledged the emotions surrounding his departure but admitted that he is excited about the next chapter of his career with the Spanish giants.
“Today a new chapter begins in my career. Leaving is never easy, but I am excited about what awaits me, and I will always remember my time at Leipzig with pride and gratitude.”
Eyes on a new challenge in Madrid
Although his focus has now shifted to Real Madrid, Diomande insisted that Leipzig will always remain close to his heart and hinted at a possible reunion in European competition in the future.
“This club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to follow its journey closely. And who knows? Perhaps we will meet again one day in the Champions League… Thank you for everything.”
After making his mark in Germany and establishing himself as one of Africa’s brightest young talents, Diomande now begins a new challenge at Real Madrid, where he will hope to continue his rapid rise on the biggest stage in world football.
