Yan Diomande fuelled by Liverpool and elite club interest

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande says growing links with Europe’s biggest clubs only drive him to work harder as he completes a stunning first full season in Europe.

The 19-year-old has been closely watched by several top sides, with Liverpool repeatedly mentioned as keen admirers of the Ivorian.

“Imagine people say you go to Chelsea or Real Madrid (as examples of big clubs) to do this job…you’re going to be happy and motivated to do more,” Diomande explained, admitting the speculation gives him an extra push. “I don’t think about it too much because my focus is on the pitch, my job is playing football, that takes care of everything, but it gives me a lot of motivation to see people talking about me.”

He admits the speed of his rise has surprised even him, but insists his ambitions are long-term.

“I didn’t imagine to do everything so quickly like this but I have ambition and vision to be one of the best players. Everything happened fast and now I’m going step by step. I have a new dream every day. I’m not going to say anything crazy, but in five years I’d like to be one of the best.”

Leipzig are thought to value him at around £85 million after a Bundesliga campaign of 12 goals and seven assists.
