Yan Diomande may not know if he will ever play for Liverpool, but his admiration for Jurgen Klopp is crystal clear.
Now working as Red Bull’s head of global soccer, the former Liverpool manager regularly checks in with the RB Leipzig starlet and offers him guidance.
“We talk every now and then. He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard,” Diomande told Bild, explaining how those conversations push him to keep improving. The young attacker admitted Klopp has long been a coaching idol for him.
“It was always my dream to play on one of his teams,” Diomande said. “That’s not quite possible now. But being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it’s incredible.”
“He’s a legend. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a movie,” he added, summing up what it feels like to have a mentor he once only watched on television.
For Diomande, every interaction with Jurgen Klopp is a reminder of how far he has already come, and how much further he wants to go.
