Burkina Faso’s national football team defender, Steve Yago, has revealed that his teammates are determined not to let go of their dream of clinching the Africa Cup of Nations title, which eluded them in the 2013 final against Nigeria, ending 0-1.

The team, nicknamed “The Stallions,” is set to face Mali in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, Ivory Coast.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Yago shared excerpts published by the African Union website, emphasizing that “the dream of the current generation of the national team is to win the title and compensate for the disappointment of 2013 after learning from the past.”

“We have an opportunity to rewrite history with this generation. Fortunately, some players and members of the 2013 national team have been in regular contact with us, sharing their experiences and insights on what it takes to reach the final of this tough competition,” he said.

The defender continued, “We have received advice from experienced players, and we want to benefit from it when we play against Mali.”

The determination to learn from the past and leverage the wisdom of former players underscores Burkina Faso’s commitment to achieving success in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
