Franco-Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi, who plays for Granada in the Spanish Liga, has decided to resign from the Algerian national team. Instead, he has expressed his preference to pursue an international career with the French national team.
Despite efforts from the Algerian football federation to convince him to participate in the 29th edition of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, scheduled from January 19 to February 10 in South Africa, Brahimi has chosen to represent France.
At 22 years old, Brahimi was recently selected for the European Championship play-off match against Norway (5-3) on October 16, although he did not make an appearance on the field. He had previously played for Stade Rennais in the French Ligue 1.
Vahid Halilhodzic, the Algerian coach, has expressed his disappointment, as he had made considerable efforts to persuade Brahimi to represent Algeria.
