Yacine Bammou: From Storekeeper to Ligue 1 Striker, But Don’t Mention It
Yacine Bammou’s rise from working at a PSG club shop to scoring match-winners in Ligue 1 is one of the most compelling underdog stories in French football—but it’s also one he prefers not to dwell on.
Now a regular with FC Nantes, Bammou made headlines after scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Lens on the opening day of the season. Yet in a candid interview with France Football, the striker made it clear that his past as a warehouse worker isn’t a topic he enjoys revisiting.
“There weren’t too many jokes in the locker room about the shop story because I have a bit of a special character,” Bammou revealed.
While known for his cheerful demeanor, Bammou admitted he has little patience for those who poke fun at his journey:
“I can get angry quickly if someone tries to pick on me. Since people sense this, they avoid teasing me about that kind of thing.”
It’s a strong message from the French-Moroccan forward: respect the journey, but don’t reduce him to it.
