Wydad’s crisis deepens after 2-1 defeat to Yacoub El Mansour
Wydad Athletic Club suffered another setback after falling 2-1 to Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour in Round 17 of the Botola Pro Inwi.
The hosts made a strong start, taking the lead in the 9th minute through defender Salah Moussaddaq, who converted a corner delivered by Hakim Ziyech. Wydad held on to their advantage and went into the break ahead.
The momentum shifted after halftime as the visitors mounted an impressive comeback. Zakaria Fati equalised in the 63rd minute, before the match turned further in Yaacoub Mansour’s favour when Amine Aboulfath inadvertently scored an own goal, handing the visitors the lead.
Carteron Under Pressure
The defeat piles more pressure on head coach Patrice Carteron, who is still searching for his first win since taking charge after replacing Mohamed Amine Benhachem.
Under Carteron, Wydad have now gone five matches without a victory, recording draws against Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi and Kawkab Marrakech, alongside defeats to FUS Rabat, Maghreb Fez, and now Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour.
Standings Impact
The result sees Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour move up to 11 points, sitting second from bottom, while Wydad remain on 31 points in fourth place.
Growing Concerns
With performances continuing to decline, pressure is mounting on Carteron as Wydad’s season risks slipping off course. The latest defeat further intensifies scrutiny on the technical staff, with the club in urgent need of a turnaround.
