Wydad reach agreement to sign Jordan midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan
Wydad Athletic Club have reached an agreement with Jordanian defensive midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan over a move to the Moroccan club during the current summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old is expected to join the Casablanca side as Wydad look to strengthen their squad ahead of another demanding season of domestic and continental football.
The agreement represents Wydad’s latest move to add depth to their midfield and provide the coaching staff with more options for the campaign ahead.
Al-Rashdan brings experience from across Asia
Al-Rashdan arrives in Morocco with experience of playing in several leagues across Asia and the Gulf region.
The Jordan international has played for six clubs over the past five years, featuring in Iraq, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.
His previous clubs include Nawroz in Iraq, Al-Faisaly in Jordan, Emirates in the UAE, Al-Khalidiya in Bahrain and Al-Zawraa in Iraq.
His most recent club was Qatar SC, from where he is now set to begin his first experience of Moroccan football.
Seventh club of professional career
Al-Rashdan’s career has been characterised by frequent moves, with relatively short spells at several of his previous clubs.
His longest stays came at Al-Faisaly, Emirates and Qatar SC, where he spent no more than six months at each club. He also had a four-month spell with Nawroz in Iraq.
His move to Wydad will represent the seventh club of his professional career.
For the Moroccan side, his arrival is another attempt to build a squad capable of competing across multiple fronts.
Wydad prepare for demanding season
Wydad are strengthening their options as they prepare for a season that will involve competition on both the domestic and continental stages.
The club’s management sees Al-Rashdan’s experience as an opportunity to increase the depth available to the technical staff, particularly in midfield.
The Jordanian’s move will also give him the chance to test himself in Moroccan football after spending his career across several leagues in the Middle East.
With the final agreement now in place, Al-Rashdan is expected to become Wydad’s latest summer addition as the Casablanca club continues preparations for the new campaign.
