Wydad AC have suffered a significant setback ahead of their highly anticipated derby clash against Raja Casablanca despite returning to winning ways in the Moroccan league.

The Reds secured an important 2-0 victory over COD Meknes at the Mohammed V Stadium in the 19th round of the Botola Pro on Wednesday night.

However, the positive result was overshadowed by an injury suffered by Brazilian player Ferreira during the encounter. The defender was unable to continue the match after sustaining what initially appeared to be a serious problem.

In an official statement released after the game, Wydad confirmed that medical examinations revealed the player had suffered a tear in the medial cruciate ligament.

The club added that further details regarding the extent of the injury and the player’s recovery timeline will be announced after additional examinations and a final medical assessment are completed.

The victory over COD Meknes marked a successful start for coach Mohamed Benchrifa, with Wydad ending their recent poor run of form to claim all three points at home.

The result moved Wydad up to fourth place in the league standings with 34 points, while COD Meknes remain seventh with 27 points.

Despite the important win, Ferreira’s injury now presents a major concern for the technical staff ahead of the crucial derby showdown against Raja Casablanca.
