Wydad close to reuniting golden generation with Jabrane and Hassouni return

Wydad Athletic Club are closing in on the return of former stars Yahya Jabrane and Ayman Hassouni as the Moroccan giants step up plans to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.

According to reports in Morocco, Wydad have reached full agreements with both players, leaving only the official announcement before the experienced duo complete their return to the Casablanca club.

The moves form part of a wider rebuilding strategy under newly elected president Ibrahim El Asri, who is seeking to restore one of Africa’s most decorated clubs to the summit of domestic and continental football.

Experienced leaders return

The report states that El Asri, working alongside sporting coordinator Salah Eddine Saidi, has prioritised the return of players who understand the club’s culture and winning mentality.

Jabrane and Hassouni were key members of the Wydad side coached by Walid Regragui, helping the club enjoy one of the most successful periods in its recent history.

Their experience and leadership are now expected to play an important role as Wydad look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

One-year contracts agreed

Both players are expected to join Wydad as free agents after their previous contracts expired.

The proposed deals will reportedly run for one season, with the club holding an option to extend each contract for a further year.
