Wydad complete 14th summer signing as Moroccan giants rebuild squad

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have completed the signing of midfielder Redouane Marmouch from Chabab Mohammedia, taking their number of summer arrivals to 14.

Marmouch joins Wydad as the club continues an extensive squad rebuild ahead of the new season, with the Casablanca side aiming to return to the top of Moroccan and African football.

The midfielder arrives from Chabab Mohammedia’s first team after gaining experience in both the first and second divisions of the Moroccan championship.

The 14-year? Wait. Need not typo. Marmouch is the 14th signing. Wydad have been particularly active in the transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad across several positions.

The club’s latest arrival follows a series of deals involving both established Moroccan players and foreign recruits.

Yahya Jabrane, Ayman El Hassouni, Jordanian midfielder Noor Al-Rashdan, Yassin Jabrane, Janan Allah, Youssef Dayo, Rachid Ghanimi, Salah El-Din Koffi and Yahya Attiat-Allah have all joined on free transfers.

Wydad have also completed permanent deals for Adil El Khaloufi, whose contract was bought from Yaacoub El Mansour, and Soufiane Hilti after activating his release clause.

The Red team further strengthened its squad with Beninese forward Ologbadi Balimer Junior after purchasing his contract, while Congolese player Silver Ganfoula joined on a one-season deal.

Wydad targeting return to top

The recruitment drive is part of Wydad’s efforts to rebuild the squad after four consecutive seasons without winning a major title.

Club president Ibrahim Al-Asri’s administration is continuing to work in the transfer market with the aim of assembling a team capable of competing for honours in Morocco and on the African continent.

Marmouch’s arrival adds further depth to the squad as Wydad prepare for the challenges of the new season and attempt to restore the club to the forefront of Moroccan and African football.
