The Wydad Athletic Club announced on the evening of Monday, January 1, 2024, the appointment of Abdelmajeed Bernaki as the interim president of the Red Team, succeeding Saïd Naciri, who is currently detained on suspicion of involvement in what has become known in the media as the “Saharan Escobar” case.
The board of directors of Wydad Athletic Club held a meeting yesterday evening at the Haj Benjelloun Complex, in light of the recent developments for the team, attended by branch presidents and representatives of the football branch.
This meeting resulted in the appointment of Abdelmajeed Bernaki as the First Deputy to President Saïd Naciri, to assume his responsibilities in administrative, financial, and sports matters until the general assemblies are convened and the vision for its presidency becomes clear.
According to a statement from the club, this step is taken to ensure the normal functioning of the association in accordance with the law and regulations.
It emphasizes the necessity of rallying around the institution and continuing the normal course of the club, allowing it to maintain its leadership role since its establishment.
Wydad Athletic Club, a powerhouse in Moroccan football, faces a critical juncture with the temporary appointment of Bernaki, signaling a commitment to stability and continuity during a challenging period.
The “Saharan Escobar” case has cast a shadow over the club, and the interim leadership aims to navigate through these turbulent times until a more permanent solution is established through general assemblies.
