Wydad close in on Jordan international Nizar Al-Rashdan after final agreement

Wydad Athletic Club have reached a final agreement with Jordan international defensive midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan, paving the way for him to formally join the Moroccan side during the current summer transfer window.

The move is intended to strengthen Wydad’s squad depth before the club begins its domestic and continental commitments. Al-Rashdan’s arrival would provide the team with another option in defensive midfield as the club prepares for a demanding season across multiple competitions.

The 27-year-old has built considerable experience in Asian and Gulf football, having played in the Iraqi, Jordanian, Emirati, Bahraini and Qatari leagues. His career has included six different clubs over the past five years, with the player moving between teams in a series of relatively short spells.

Al-Rashdan began the latest phase of his career with Iraqi club Nooruz, before returning to Jordan to represent Al-Faisaly. He then continued his journey with Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates and Khalidiya in Bahrain.

His subsequent move took him back to Iraq, where he played for Al-Zawraa, before his most recent spell with Qatar SC. The proposed transfer to Wydad would represent his first experience of Moroccan football.

The midfielder’s time at several of his previous clubs was notably brief. His longest stays lasted six months, with Al-Faisaly, Emirates Club and Qatar SC, while his spell with Nooruz lasted only four months.

That pattern of frequent moves has been a defining feature of Al-Rashdan’s professional career. Across the past five years, he has repeatedly taken on new challenges in different leagues and footballing environments, and Wydad would become the seventh club of his professional career.

For Wydad, the agreement reflects the club’s attempt to widen the choices available to its coaching staff. The Moroccan side are expected to face strong competition on both the domestic and continental fronts in the season ahead, making squad depth a key consideration during the summer recruitment period.

Al-Rashdan’s formal arrival is now expected to follow the agreement reached between the player and Wydad. Until that process is completed, the move remains a step towards his first spell in Morocco rather than a completed registration.

The midfielder’s international background and experience across five national leagues are central to the appeal of the deal. Wydad’s management are backing him to add further strength to the squad as the club prepares for the next campaign and the challenges that will come on several fronts.
