Wydad Casablanca is actively engaging with several prominent players to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup.
Among those targeted is experienced Spanish forward Pedro Rodriguez, currently with Italian side Lazio.
According to a source close to Wydad, Pedro has maintained ongoing communication with the club’s president, Hicham Ait Mena, with whom he shares a friendly rapport.
The former Barcelona star has expressed a strong interest in joining Wydad for the tournament, while the club aims to secure him on a long-term deal.
In addition, talks with Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal have progressed significantly.
Boufal recently celebrated a historic Belgian league title with Union Saint-Gilloise, marking the club’s first championship win.
Union Saint-Gilloise has agreed to let Boufal join Wydad for the Club World Cup, with the understanding that he will return to Belgium in time for the Champions League preliminary rounds.
This arrangement involves a financial compensation to the Belgian side.
Nonetheless, Wydad is pushing for a full-season contract for Boufal, similar to the deal signed with his fellow Moroccan, Nordin Amrabat.
Negotiations between Wydad and Boufal’s representatives continue as both sides seek a resolution.
Wydad has been housed in Group G of the Club World Cup alongside Manchester City, Juventus and Al Ain.
